The Good News Welfare Society (GNWS) was founded by Rev. Fr. Jacob P.J The Good News Welfare Society’s Arts and Commerce First Grade College came to be established in June 1986. This institution is recognized by the Govt. of Karnataka as an aided institution and affiliated to Karnataka University Dharwad. University Grants Commission New Delhi recognized the college under Rule 2 (f) and 12 (b) of the UGC Act as also NAAC by awarding “B” grade to the Institution.
At the persistent requests from the then Chairman Fr. Jacob, Bro. Mathew Pannathanath the then Provincial Superior in consultation with the provincial Council decided to have a feasibility study to take over and own the entire Society and its Institutions. Consequently Bro. Abraham Pralel was appointed to study the viability of the project in the year of 1998 to 1999. He in turn after studying, the pros and cons of the project submitted a report which was accepted by the provincial and his council. Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel, Louis Villa, Yercaud, Salem dist became the sole owners of the society during the year 2000.
The present Management of the College consists of Educationists of high standing which includes Br. K.J. George as President/Chairman and Provincial Superior of Yercaud Province of Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel Yercaud – DT: Salem T. N. and Br. Sabu Joseph its Secretary. All the other members belong to various Religious congregations and all of them are educationists and administrators of repute.
